In a controlled trial, the low FODMAP diet reduced IBS symptoms the best
King’s College London, UK, recently published a ground-breaking trial involving 104 patients with irritable bowel syndrome. The university researchers wanted to determine how a low FODMAP diet compares to a placebo one, and designed a trial to provide the highest quality evidence.
The participants were split into two groups – one following a low FODMAP diet, and one following fake dietary advice.
After four weeks, those on the low FODMAP diet improved gut symptoms and related-aspects to quality of life by 60%-70%.
